Stay Organized on Mac. One Desktop at a Time.

The Missing Tool for the Mac Desktop

  • ★ Easily switch your Mac desktop to show only the files you need — and hide the clutter you don't.
Create dedicated desktop views for each project or workflow — and switch between them instantly with a click.
  • ★ Fill the gap Mission Control leaves behind.
Use InfiniDesk to choose which files appear on your desktop, and Mission Control to manage which window groups are visible. The two work side by side — they're fully complementary.
  • ★ Your files always stay safe.
InfiniDesk never deletes, moves, or modifies the files in your Desktop folder — it simply controls which ones are visible on each virtual desktop.
  • ★ Your data stays private — and offline.
InfiniDesk runs entirely on your Mac, with no background internet access or data sharing. Everything stays local and under your control.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does InfiniDesk do? Doesn't Mac already have Mission Control to switch desktops?

Mission Control organizes your windows into different Spaces — but your desktop files stay the same across all of them.

InfiniDesk adds the missing piece: it lets you create multiple desktop views, each showing a different set of files and folders. It’s perfect for keeping your workspace focused and clutter-free.

Behind the scenes, your files remain in the Desktop folder — InfiniDesk just controls what’s visible. Use Mission Control for windows, and InfiniDesk for files — they work great together.

Who is InfiniDesk for? Can you give some real examples?

InfiniDesk is for anyone who uses their Mac desktop as a working surface — and wants to keep it organized and focused on the task at hand.

  • A creative professional might set up one desktop view for design assets and inspiration boards, another for active client work, and a third for personal projects — each with its own files, folders, and layout.
  • A student could create separate desktops with the assignment files for each class, an additional desktop for research (with papers, notes, and PDFs), and a clean desktop dedicated to giving class presentations — keeping everything neatly organized instead of cluttered in a single space.
  • A start-up founder might use one desktop for product development documents, another for marketing materials, and a third for pitch presentation files — switching focus throughout the day with just a click.
Is InfiniDesk a certified Mac App?

Yes. InfiniDesk is code-signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple. This confirms that it contains no malicious code and meets Apple's security requirements. See Meet the Developer below.

Is it easy to get started?

Yes — InfiniDesk is designed to be simple and intuitive from the start.

The first time you launch the app, it guides you through a quick setup to confirm your Desktop folder and create your first virtual desktop.

From there, switching between desktops or creating new ones is just a click away. You can start organizing your files immediately — no complex settings, no learning curve.

Will it interfere with how I normally use my Mac desktop?

No — InfiniDesk complements your Mac's existing features.

You can still use desktop organization tools like Stacks, Sort By, and Clean Up, as well as desktop widgets.

InfiniDesk simply adds a new layer: it controls which files and folders are visible at any given time, based on the virtual desktop you're viewing. And the app is lightweight, fast, and runs quietly in the background.

What happens after I use 50 desktop switches?

After 50 switches, InfiniDesk enters a disabled mode. All your virtual desktops will be shown together — their contents stacked on top of each other, like a cluttered desktop.

Importantly, none of your data is lost. You'll simply lose the ability to view and manage your desktops separately until you register the full version. Registration is a small one-time payment, no subscriptions.

Meet the Developer

Developer Ben Shirt-Ediss

Hi, I’m Ben — a computer scientist and independent macOS developer based in Spain.

The initial idea for InfiniDesk came while I was working in academic research. As a visual thinker, I often organized my current files directly on the Mac desktop. But working across multiple projects quickly made the desktop cluttered and distracting. I wanted a way to switch views — to see just the files related to the project I was focused on.

After building a first prototype of the app in 2018, it genuinely became something I used every day. In 2025, I finally had the opportunity to turn it into a full-featured and robust macOS app that others could benefit from too.

I really hope InfiniDesk helps you stay focused and productive on Mac, whatever line of work you're in. Also, I have some exciting updates planned for the app, so keep checking back here for the latest version.

I use Infinidesk almost every day to prepare files I share with my clients during calls. Thanks to InfiniDesk I don't need to worry any more that I might involuntarily screen share my personal or other clients' folders. I just create a desktop for each call and problem solved!
- Elena, Spain
A very tidy application. It almost makes me want to have a messy desktop, just so I can use it to keep it tidy!
